Established in 1993, South Texas College (STC) is a public institution of higher education located in McAllen, TX, serving Hidalgo and Starr Counties. The LPR community’s primary country of origin is Mexico, with some LPRs from India, the Philippines, and El Salvador. STC’s mission is to provide educational opportunities through excellence in teaching and learning, workforce development, cultural enrichment, community service, and regional and global collaborations. STC’s vision is to be a global model in educational innovation serving as a catalyst to drive regional prosperity, economic development, and the social mobility of those they serve. Through the Citizenship and Integration Training Academy (CITA) program, STC’s Continuing Education and Workforce Development Department aims to develop comprehensive citizenship education programming for LPRs across its service area.
