The Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County (JFS) provides ESL instruction, citizenship instruction, and naturalization application assistance to LPRs from more than 48 countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, Iran, Ethiopia, Moldova, and Ukraine. The lawful permanent resident population that JFS serves is extremely low income, with a substantial proportion having a low educational level. FY 2022 is the first year that JFS has been awarded a USCIS grant. With USCIS FY 2022 funding, JFS will provide citizenship instruction to 210 LPRs, administer naturalization eligibility screenings to 265 LPRs, and file 200 Forms N-400 and G-28.
