Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas (CCNEK), a community faith-based organization, has provided English as a second language instruction for more than 38 years, teaching over 9,000 immigrants how to read, write, and speak English. In 2010, CCNEK established La Luz Center for Immigration Legal Assistance which provides low-cost professional immigration legal services. In 2015, the CCNEK Citizenship Preparation Program (CPP) began offering citizenship classes. During the past eight years, CPP has had nearly 1,000 enrollees receive citizenship instruction. It is anticipated that with FY 2023 grant funding, CCNEK will provide citizenship instruction to 240 LPRs and provide naturalization application services to 270 LPRs.
