About
The Literacy Center of West Michigan (Literacy Center) is partnering with sub-awardee Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates (LIA) to provide citizenship preparation services and naturalization application services in western Michigan. The Literacy Center began offering citizenship preparation classes in 2019 primarily to immigrants from Mexico, Honduras, and Burma. Currently, the top three countries of origin for Literacy Center leaners are Mexico, Guatemala, and Burma. Literacy Center has previously been awarded a USCIS grant. LIA has been providing naturalization application services since 2016. With USCIS FY 2024 funding, the Literacy Center and LIA will provide citizenship instruction to 200 LPRs, administer naturalization eligibility screenings to 200 LPRs, and file 200 Forms N-400 and G-28.
